Frequently Asked Questions

What animals do you have?

We are always adding more animals to our petting zoo but, at the moment, we have:

Alpacas, sheep, miniature donkeys, miniature horses, pygmy goats, pot-bellied pigs, chickens, rabbits and guineas pigs.

Do you have pony rides?

Even better!  We have pony cart rides.  Instead of riding a pony, you get to travel in style in our beautiful pony cart.  It's safer as well - much harder to fall off!

I only have a small yard - can I have a Petting Zoo party?

Absolutely you can!  We can get into a really small space if we have to, and we can even give rides on the sidewalk - but don't tell anyone!

What happens if it rains?

If you need to cancel your event because of inclement weather you must notify us by telephone before 7.00 a.m. on the event date. You then have three options:

  1. The events may be rescheduled for another date.
  2. We can go ahead, but substitute an Indoor Petting Zoo.
  3. We will offer a full refund.

Cancellations received after 7.00 a.m. on the event date result in the loss of the booking fee.

We recommend that you wait until the morning of your event to decide if you wish to cancel, as weather forecasts are notoriously unreliable and, in any case, weather conditions are often localized and highly changeable.

How much does a Petting Zoo Party cost?

Surprisingly little! Our petting zoo and ride packages are custom tailored for your event, and provide excellent value for money. The price will depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to:

  1. Your location and the time it will take us to get there.
  2. Ease of access.
  3. Number and type of animals and the setup time required.
  4. Time of the year.
  5. Weekday or weekend event.
  6. Length of the event.

Prices for a full event start at $175.00 for a one-hour party, but you can get a better idea of the range of events and costs here Little Critter Traveling Petting Zoo rates.

What kind of payments do you accept?

You can pay by personal or business check, in cash or online by PayPal.  There is a small additional charge for using PayPal.

Who is responsible for cleaning up after the event?

We will clean up the petting zoo and ride areas as we go, and then carry out a final clean up when we are packed and ready to go. If we had the pens on asphalt or a paved area, we will have used bedding material on top of tarps - these will be rolled up and taken away with us.

Is there a health risk with petting zoos?

All animals carry bacteria (good and bad) - including us!  But there is no need to be overly concerned about any potential health risk as long as suitable precautions and hygiene rules are observed.  These include washing, or sanitizing, your hands after touching animals, keeping food and drinks outside the animal areas, and preventing children from putting their hands or objects (such as pacifiers or sippy-cups) in their mouths while interacting with the animals.  Children (and adults!) should also be reminded not to touch their faces or put their hands near their mouths after touching animals.

We provide hand sanitizers and have signage reminding visitors to observe basic hygiene rules at all of our events, and if water is available for hand-washing, that is even better.  As long as people take normal care, there is little risk of becoming ill from a visit to a petting zoo.
